Question for everyone...What size mesh....

wade Dec 22, 2003 12:36 PM

Weanling and hopper mice can get out of 1/2" hardward cloth. 3/8" is hard to impossable to find. 1/4" works good but can your critters eat through the small holes?

What size are you using and if 1/4" are you feeding through the mesh and can the mice get at it?

Hi Wade,

There are two herp suppliers carrying the 3/8" mesh. I'll see if I have a link saved somewhere. I'm sure they overcharge for it but I also think it's worth the money and effort. When I was setting up a large roden colony for a zoo I tested several different products and found 3/8" to be the best.

I've also heard that expanded stainless lath for plaster will work. I know of another zoo that used that exclusively. It also comes in different sizes so you'll have to see what is available.

thanks, I'd like to see that link if you find it.

I could not find the link. You might go through each of the sponsoring Cage/Supplies links provided on the Breeders/Dealers page.

Unfortunately most of the search engines on these individual pages don't work worth a darn so you'll have to go through each of them thoroughly.
