heating/eating question

gyke Dec 22, 2003 03:43 PM

Is it possible to use some type of undertank heater instead of a heat light? I would still use a uvb light. Also my male hasn't been eating hardly at all for quite a while. Every so often he'll eat a cricket but thats it. I was hoping it would pass over but its not and I am getting really worried. The female he is with still eats like crazy and I can't figure out while he won't.

Gyke, the basking light from above simulates the sun to them. Its extremely important, for them to bask in that heat!

An underground heater, I dont feel would get that tank at 100 -105 for basking area that they need, and remember the rest of tank needs to be 85- 90.
So how would you provide that temp gradiant you need? If you want to add a heat rock, somewhere, is fine, a few on here use them. **(only on collareds though, because they can tolerate heat well) other reptiles have known to get burned from them.

As far as eating, they really slow up now, most are sleeping. If he is not losing alot of weight, than his one cricket he's eating is fine for now. But you do need that heat light(Basking light) buddy!
