advice on dusky pygmy

nevrmore Dec 22, 2003 04:52 PM

i posted a few weeks ago that my pygmy was not eating...this has not changed. i've gotten several recommendations both here and elsewhere, still nothing.
a friend of a friend also has one, and he suggested that mine might have mouthrot--he also says that mine is far too docile, as i does not strike at every little movement (though he will strike if adequately provoked. just doesn't strike mice.) now i would not call this man an expert. in fact i think he's an out-and-out nitwit for some of the "facts" and "information" he was passing off, and also how his snake is kept. but nevertheless, might he be on to something with the mouthrot thing? and should i perhaps take the animal to see a vet? and if so, can anyone recommend a good and fairly-priced vet in NEPA?

I had a similar problem with one of the duskys I now keep. It ate fine until it moved to a public facing exhibit; then nothing. When I took over, I fed it in darkness and shrouded it from prying eyes. It fed. Upon the next feeding, it was far less shy. So, vary your feeding schedule to crepuscular activity (dusk or dawn), and possibly give the snake more privacy.

Good luck,
