What size cage are your adults coastals in -

markg Dec 22, 2003 06:16 PM

I have a display cage 36Wx20Dx24H with a large perch that is a spare that I was hoping would be enough for an adult male coastal. (I have a yearling male coastal carpet that is still a little guy, and still in a small cage 36x12x12. Just wondering for the future) -what do you people use for adult coastal carpets? Thanks.

*Good rule of thumb for snake caging: The lenth of the cage should be no less than half the lenth of the snake. For aborial set ups its height instead of lenth.

Might be alright as a minimum sized cage for an adult Coastal if he stays 6ft. Most Coastals make at least 7ft though. in which case 48" lenth is the minimum you want. Of course if you can afford more, thats the best!

I currently house both my adult carpets in 6'x18"x24" cages.

Thanks for the input. I happened by a reptile store today - they had a cage guessing around 30"W x 18"D x 72"H with two full grown carpet pythons on various shelves. Really nice display. That was one of the appeals of CPs - being able to have a display cage. I think I'm going to have to have more of a tall cage like that built.

I have an adult female in a cage that's 3X2X1.5. She has plenty of room. She's over 8' long. It doesn't sound like much room, but carpets aren't boa constrictors.

Thanks for the comments Jake. My roughly 2 1/2ft boa constrictor is much more massive of a snake than my 3ft plus carpet python, and thus your statement "carpets aren't boa constrictors" makes sense to me.
