WARNING! Very Graphic pic! Beware of people with no common sense!

A friend of mine, who shall remain nameless, call me last week and asked me, "Do you think the stupidest person in the world would know NOT to ship ball pythons in a cricket box?"

Evidently the shipper was pretty stupid and shipped them UPS to a northern State. The package was hand delivered to my friend in person and this was the result. Two loose ball pythons...now dead.

He later found out by coincidence that another associate of his had also received a shipment with the same result. But this time a lone snake was shipped in a check book box wrapped in a t-shirt. NO heat back with either shipment!

Please be sure you are dealing with people that know what they are doing! You certainly wouldn't want this to happen to you.

Be careful!

If you don't know the reptile website where you can attempt to have justice served and warn others of this guy e-mail me ASAP.

rodmalm Dec 22, 2003 07:49 PM

Wow! I wouldn't even consider doing that during nice weather, due to the probable damage from all the staples and jagged screen edges. In winter? That's insane!

I'm very happy with my shipping results. I only use UPS overnight, only in insulated boxes. Always check weather conditions the night before shipping to see if heat packs and how many are needed. And ask the person receiving them how warm they were when they arrived so I can "readjust" my heat pack techniques. You can't learn without some feedback. (Haven't lost a single animals in over 2 years now with a little over 1,000 animals shipped.-mostly baby colubrids, chameleons, and leopard geckos, but a few pythons and other odds and ends)

(Not trying to pay myself on the back too much, I just hope the person who did this reads the above and learns a little about proper shipping. They made every mistake in the book! It was probably priority mail too!) I hope there was a live arrival guarantee so the shipper looses all the monies involved,- just to add a little extra pressure to the shipper to do a much better job next time, if there is a next time!

Were the vents in the box covered? If not, WHY WASN'T THE SHIPMENT STOPPED BY UPS?????? UPS doesn't "knowingly" ship snakes, right? You'd think somebody along the line would see snakes through the vents(can't tell if they're covered in the picture)

ultanoleman Dec 23, 2003 01:34 AM

It seems as if the vents are covered? And seriously how the hell did UPS sent it? Very sad situation.
Im also geussing that it seems they took the ground shipping?? It should have been Express mail over night shipping...

Vtherpster Dec 23, 2003 04:31 AM

it. They would have no problem in ceasing animal shipments all together. And you know what that would do to the open trade as we know it. That person was and is responsible.
Just like there are normals sold as morphs, payments are made with false documents and wieghts are misrepresented, some ignorant person will ship an animal in extreme weather. Honestly, I am from the north and will not recieve an animal this time of year. I actually have a small window of oportunity because of this. People receiving the animals should also consider what they are doing. It is a shame none the less.

jeff favelle Dec 23, 2003 05:22 AM

I'm from Canada and I ship all over year round. No problems. A properly-packaged reptile box is very cold/heat resistant. I'm amazed at the number of people who ship without the knowledge to package these animals adequately. Or perhaps its just laziness? Either way, its the animals that suffer, and that's not a good thing.

A properly packaged animal in a lined styrofoam box with the proper heating/cooling elements IS ESSENTIAL!! Was this person afraid to ask someone how to pack it? Heck there are links on this forum with pics that show step by step how to pack.
Obviously this person just didn't give a crap about the animals. It's truely sad.

I live in the northeast and ship all year around just pack it the way it should be done.

RESPONSIBLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jeff favelle Dec 23, 2003 06:41 PM

Totally. I agree.

exoticballpython Dec 23, 2003 03:04 AM

The animals were sent on a plane in 5 hours so next day air if it was used they would of never of made it regardless. The air temperature at airplane altitudes is going to be dropping significantly in the cargo area where the animals are shipped. even a few hours for a animal that can not produce heat outside can kill it or give it serious health problems. I guess this is a very good forewarning to all of us to get any and all information we can from the person(s) we are buying are animals from. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR THEM ANIMALS TO DIE!

Bryan

pastelball Dec 23, 2003 03:05 PM

your right 100%, their is no need for a animal, no matter what kind it is to die, it is cold everywhere right now, and even if you shipp to mexico, it is still cold in the air, this has got to stop and people need to really stop and think, can i get a way with this, will he not call and let me know, its sad!!!!!!

Carlton Dec 23, 2003 11:14 AM

Certainly we can all be sad, but my question is: what if anything is the receiver doing about it? I don't care about the money, but hope the shipper will be prosecuted for animal cruelty. There are humane shipping regulations that can probably be used against this jerk. Actually I would feel a bit better to see the shippers themselves be sent via cardboard box in a air cargo hold to New Brunswick in a T shirt! Ignorance is no excuse in such a blatant case.

jamison Dec 23, 2003 04:24 PM

i think its right to name the seller.

Markus Jayne Dec 24, 2003 06:52 AM

the shipper was just a hobbyist with only 3 snakes and was getting rid of them. She managed to kill all 3 due to her total ignorance.

Very sad.
