My mistake.....

basioto Dec 22, 2003 07:29 PM

Anyway the mouse was still alive when I got back after five days, no injury to the snake and I wonder if he is now intimidated by mice. He hasn't eaten since. Not losing weight and doing well, I'm just worried that I am wasting my time now trying to offer him mice(?) What's wrong with this message board anyway. I wrote this fifty times so that is why it is short and sweet.

When some rodents figure out the snake won't eat, they turn on the snakes and start to take bites out of the animal, sometimes resulting in death. I beleive ya got lucky.
Just wait a couple of weeks and try again. Please stay in the room and watch. I VERY rarely feed live. I've got 2 young snakes that will only eat live. I stay in the room with em while feeding with a pair of hemostats in hand. When the snake constricts the mouse, sometimes the mouse will try to bite the snake ( I would if I was being squeezed to death) Anyway, I use the hemos to hold up the mouse's mouth in case the mouse tries to bite my snake. This works well for me.
Good luck with your animal
