On 9/14 of this year, this girl had a complicated delivery. She had 3-4 slugs that had fused together which she had great difficulty passing. She had four live babies prior to trying to deliver the mass. They are all doing fine. All babies behind the mass were killed due to the stress of delivery trying to pass the mass. About four hours of constant labor after delivering the four, she finally passed the mass and four stillborns along with it. The following day, she passed another stillborn.
In the back of my mind I was concerned that she may be retaining additional babies, primarily because the litter was smaller than what I expected and I didn't think she had lost that much weight.
Well, on 11/2/03 she passed another stillborn. I took her to the vet. He x-rayed and definitely concluded she had somewhere between 3-5 more babies in her. I scheduled her for surgery about two weeks out. On 11/6 she passed another stillborn.
On 11/17, she had the surgery and the vet removed the two last babies. He had to make two large incisions in her to get them out.
She appears to be doing well now, aggressively feeding and acting totally back to normal. She's a little darker than normal in the PIC as I believe she's entering a shed cycle.
The vet is very optimistic she will be able to reproduce again. Time will tell. Obviously she's getting a year or two off.
Just thought I'd share the story.
