Aquarium Incubator tips?

Haydn Dec 22, 2003 10:04 PM

If anyone has been sucessfull hatching eggs using a homemade aquarium style incubator I would love to know if you have any tips or recommendations on how to make it work better.

I have read many of the websites and the Leopard Gecko Manual and they are generally all the same when it comes to building your own incubator. Would it be an advantage to place the aquarium inside of a larger styrofoam container to help regulate the internal temperature? doing this a digital thermometer and hygrometer could be used, placing the sensor near the eggs and the display unit outside of the box.

Thanks for everything,
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I've never tried this one, but you'll have more accurate, better results with a hovabator from most accounts I've read. They usually run $35-40 and are worth every penny. Much less worry about your eggs.

If you're simply trying to save money, I've incubated successfully in a rubbermaid of vermiculite under a red light bulb and also in a closet with a water heater in it. Check temps in various places in your house. Lots of top shelves in closets are at the right temps.

Good luck
