Large Home Depot Slate Tiles fit 20-gallon perfectly!!!

StarGecko Dec 23, 2003 12:22 AM

I am so excited. I went to Home Depot today to buy some slate or tile for my 20-gallon tank, which I am setting up for some geckos. I bought two large slate tiles, they looked like they would fit. I got the more expensive golden slate cause it looked pretty and more importantly, had some nice irregularity to the surface for them to grip as they walk easily. I checked the outside when I got home and was worried, looked like they would be a smidge too big but I put them in and they fit perfectly wall to wall. There is a space at the end of the tank where they go to the bathroom, I think I will put some calci-sand there, should be easy to clean.

Anyway I mention this because I am sure lots of other people have this same size 20-gallon tank, and thought it could be helpful.

Thanks for the info, I'm thinking of going with the tile in the summer, once I'm out of school. Is leaving an area of sand what most people do when they use tile? I was thinking of going all tile, but getting two sets worth, and every week I'd clean one set, while I put the new set in. I don't know, maybe this would be too much work. I figured I'd just let the tiles soak in a bleach/water solution for a little while, then the rinse and let air dry. Does anybody else do it that way? Does anybody see a problem with that? Thanks

I keep a small piece of plastic under the paper in the poop corner to protect the tile. This way I never have to wash any poop off the tiles. I just change their paper every day or so, and replace the plastic every so often when it starts to get stinky.

What size are the tiles & how many did you buy for each tank? I assume you're talking about a 20 Long tank?
