Am I misreading the signs or what? (kinda long sorry)

melisondra Dec 23, 2003 01:00 AM

Can anyone tell me if im doing anything wrong?

I have been trying to breed my veileds together for a bit now. I have read up alot on it and think im (and they) are ready to try. For the past week I took down the barrier between them so they could see each other.(their cages are about 5 feet apart, I had a garbage bag piece taped over the girl Aurora's side that faced the guy's cage.)

Anyway, she has been showing some blue coloring on her casque and a few spots on her back/tail. I have shown the female to the male a couple times now, the first time she hissed but stayed green and blue, so I let her go in his cage. He strutted over and tried to climb on top, she hissed and twisted about but never tried to bite him and stayed green the entire time. Nothing happened though, they ended up falling a little off the branches most the time.

Since then I have shown her to him twice and she has hissed and puffed up, yet still stayed green... so confused
Does a certain feeding/watering/lighting schedule make anything work better? Or is this just not the right time? (it never seems to be the right time with her though... grr)

Also, am I misreading the "blue coloring" thing? Is it like I said with the spots or like *poof* total smurf effect? (srry bad analogy I know =P)

From your guys' experiences do reactions go better after feeding? Before? At a certain time? Any ideas / stories are greatly appreciated ^_^

lol I feel so bad for my guy... "Ohh a girl!! *puff* damn... Ohh a girl!! *puff* damn... *sigh* no one likes me..."

I don't have time to write much right now but the blue spots thing doesn't really mean they're always ready like some books make it sound. If she's gaping and hissing though I would probably hold off a bit. Try putting their cages right next to eachother like touching so they get a real good view of eachother for a day or two and give it another shot. My veileds were a pain in the butt to breed mostly cause of the male, but that's what finally worked for me. Just keep a good eye on them while they're together and I would separate them after they do breed, then re-introduce them each day until she rejects him. Good luck!
