Got a light question for ya

kruldar Dec 23, 2003 03:39 AM

OK, so I know nothing about general information concerning electrical appliances. So sue me :P I just got a used light-clamp from my friend and couldn't help but notice the socket that came with it says "660 W 250 V" what does this mean it can support? In other words, could I throw in like a 100w mercury vapor lamp and be fine with this?

Here is what this means. 660 W means 660 Watt's and 250 V means 250 Volts. To find the current in amps you take 660/250 = 2.4 amps. If it says 660 W then it can easily handle a 100 Watt bulb. Are you sure it says 660 W? That must be a very heavy duty socket.

hi;
you should be able to use a 100w with no problem. if it has a ceramic or porcelain
socket it will hold the higher wattage bulbs. sometimes they have a sticker
on the inside of the dome with the wattage rateing. becareful, them lights can get
pretty hot to the touch. i use 120w-150w
spot lamps with these fixtures and don't
have any problems.
