Hello anyone remember me?

double d Dec 23, 2003 08:28 AM

I use to be Double D's mom unfortunatly the very begining of this past spring We had to let double d go, her body just couldnt function anymore, for those who dont know Double D and her story just surfice it to say her surviving and pulling through and living a happy healthy 2 years after I took her in (was horrible abused) was a surprise to alot of people she was a true ambasadore for iguanas, my preciouse little girl.

After she passed I was so upset that we took apart her enclosure and cermeoicly burned EVERY peice vowing to NEVER have an iguana again.

FAMOUSE Last words.

Well about 2 months ago I saw an add for someone wanting to sell there 4ft male iguana. I emailed them offering my services to help them find a rescue to possible take in the ig, gave them some basic ig info and advice as the ig looked kinda dark. Well a few weeks later I told her that I might be able to take the ig in if she could find noting else but I WOULD not pay for him. I refered to her to my website of Double d's development, progress and care, about a week after that I got an email asking if id like to take him in. After talking to my hubby, who was not even needing convencine we drive to one town over where they met us and I see the BIGGEST Ig ive EVER seen in person. He was taped into a large container for the ride home (container lid woulndt stay shut without the tape) apparently he had been bought cage and all two weeks before and they just didnt realize how huge his cage would be and need to be, they kept the cage to donate or sell and I took in the 4ft MONSTER lol. For the first month I never got near him without my heavy winter gloves and my winter coat , jeans and heavy shoes. Unfortunatly money that was destined for his new enclosure went to an emergency car repair and his new enclosure was delayed, we built a cheap temp cage to house him in for a bit but we just this weekend finished his new enclosure. Theres still a few items we want to add but we can do that as time goes along.

So Rex (named by my 8 year old) is here, moved into his new enclosure thats 8ft long, 5 ft deep, and 7 1/2 ft tall. Inside is his litter box (in his temp cage he was going in it 100 percent of the time new cage not yet lol), and two huge climbing platforms. Hubby made them to look like peir docks there so neat looking plans later are to add a small pond/water fall as well as a cave type area for himt o have a dark place to retreat to, he's not one who likes to be handled and is still learning to trust me as of last night I was in his cage rigging up his UVB flourcent tube light (till his Mercury Vapor light arrives) and the entire time he's tail whipping my butt hubby thought it was HYSTARIACL. Unfortunatly last night in all his upset he dropped about 2 inches of the end of his tail, but he should be just fine, I need to bulk him up a bit as he's still adjusting to the new surroundings and couple of cage changes and we all know how must igs take to change lol.

Well I've ran on enought so ill post some pics after I get them off my camera, not to many familiar faces around here anymore but HI to the ones who remember me.

I'm so sorry to hear about Double D, but you're right, she really did have two wonderful years with you.

I'm glad you didn't get out of iguanas! I'm sure that your new guy, Rex, will be just as happy as DD was with you!

I know what you mean about a lack of familiar faces around here. I don't post often, but I've been on the forum for several years now, and almost EVERYONE is gone from the original little group.

I look forward to the pictures, and reading your posts!

WELCOME BACK!!

Thanks I dont think Rex will EVER be like my Green girl. Double D was a sweet cuddling love bug, Rex is a hormonal upset BIG BAD BOY lol, BUT a very close friend reminded me before I got Rex that He WOULD NOT be like Double D and I can live with that. Her picture still hangs downstairs and her special ornament on my christmas tree this year in rememberance of her.

Rex is a true to fourm male iguana lol, But he's amazing to look at and he has a home where he's safe and sound for ever so thats a good thing, I can pet him on his terms at this point and actually managed to get up enough nerve to pick him up ungloved yesterday (my arms backto iguana owner fourm now to lol).
