BRUMATION (Winter slow down) or JUST SICK?

Dragonz Dec 23, 2003 09:07 AM

I just got a new beardie (7 mth old) from a reputable breeder (shipped overnight)4 days ago it still is acting very lethargic (won't eat, doesn't move). Breeder says it is just slowed down for the winter and not to worry. I have a 13 mth old male who hasn't slowed down a bit and were in SC,,, the new one came up from FL. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to at least get her to eat? I have not allowed the 2 to be around each other because I'm not positive that the new one is parasite free. I have soaked her and she is plenty warm???

She is a Christmas gift for my son and don't want to give him a sick Dragon....

Thanks for any advice & Merry Christmas

I really wouldn't be to concerned right now since you have only had him 4 days. When I got my beardies it took one of them about 2 weeks to get adjusted due to stress and a new environment, etc. I would just offer him some different things to eat and see if you can interest him in anything. It is hard to tell right now because of brumation and such whether he is sick or just going to brumate but I can tell you that I have two beardies that have never brumated and one that brumates every year so the fact that the other beardie(s) you have are not brumating doesn't necessarily mean much, at least I don't think so. You might try giving him a warm bath and see if you can get any type of fecal sample from him and have the vet test it. I have a vet now that just gives me a couple fecal sample containers and then I drop it off and he tests it for like $7 or $10 dollars. That way you would know if there is something more going on.
