Beneficial Lighting for Tegus.

map Jun 03, 2003 07:35 PM

Does anyone have any advice on providing lighting for tegus? I am building an enclosure for our new Argentinian Red and would like to know which lighting offers the most benefit - and how close (low) do the lights need to be in order for them to be effective. My enclosure is 7.5 feet wide by 3 feet high and I am thinking of a double 48 inch flourescent fixture attached at the ceiling. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks. map

I like the powersun by zoomed. Only thing is though that they can not be left on for hours at a time. You have to either have another "generic" bulb come on then or do something else to compensate. If you think about it though this a good thing. They can be used in a regular socket that most lamps that herpers use are and can "deliver" the UV from up to 6ft above the enclosure. Could be good for you since you said the enclosure was 3ft high, you could maneurver the lamp to be at like say 4ft and be at a safe distance but still giving the animal the amount needed.

If you have anymore questions feel free to contact me. Kind of later here.......
