UVB light?????

beausblue Jun 03, 2003 07:37 PM

I have a 9 month old Blue I know we are supposed to use the uvb light with her. My question is I how long per day does she need to be under that light? I ask only because I live in west Texas and it is already hitting 100 during the day and only getting down to about 75 at night. Even with the air conditioner on her tank gets very warm. I have about three thermometers in a 55 gal. tank for her so that I have the most acurate temp check I can. Sometimes though I have to turn her lamp off as it just gets too warm and she is clean on the other end of the tank anyway. Any advice would be wonderful, sorry this is so long.

Sounds like you need a thermostat and seperate your heat source from your light source. Put the heat on a control and the lights on a timer. There are several thermostats available depending on your budget. If you use "chicken lights" the hoods with an incandescent bulb you might try one of the red light light bulbs and put it on a thermostat.

Thank you that sounds great. I will look around to see what I can find. Putting the lights on a timer is too easy, the thermostat though do you have any recomendations as to a reliable brand? I do not really care about price this is for my babies. Again thank you.

I have him in a 55 Gal acrylic aquarium with a screen to and it has also been modified they have screen cutouts along the back for ventilation. I have also redirected my air vent just a little and it seems to be working. Bless my wife for that idea. Thank you all for your help
