Tangerines holding their value when others Dont????

AlbinoLeo Dec 23, 2003 03:32 PM

Allright before a bunch of Super "Hypo's" come in here and raise a storm hear me out.

You look at Albino's - the above average ones are going for 150.00 to 200.00 - then you turn around and look at an above average tangerine, hypo or SH, and they are being sold for 500.00 to 600.00.

I dont get it - it looks to me like there are a lot more tangerines being offered then Albino's, Striped normals, Jungle Normals, even Blizzards,....

I look at the average Tangerines and to me they are just common's now, but yet they hold a good value? Someone explain to me why they hold their money...and please dont use the selective bred argument....common is common, no matter what it takes to get there.

however in recient time tangeriunes have really become just than ORANG and RED ORANGE not yellow or goldish..... the ultimate being a solid red gecko from head to tail...........
now super hypos are a dime a dozen
but a kick butt true TANGERINE gecko doesnt come around all that often.... i mean more than used to but anyone can get a yellow or goldish hypo anywhere but only big bright orange red bright (that keep their colors) are being sought after........

pics to kinda show

here is shorty sporting the super hypo carrottail baldie look, now while she is gorgeous... most breeders out there can produce these right here and now

now here this orange and redish beast.. doesnt have the baldy look nor does she have carrot tail but she because of her colors aree coveted more

same as this animal

alot of breeders can produce and hatch out babies whom are very orange but generally they lose the orange color and it fades to yellow, goldish or brownish... its rarer, not as rare as used to be (not really rare ust not as often) for an adult tang to hold its colors

this is my assumption on it hope it helps

Your Leo's are impresive no doubt - I guess what I am saying is that there are som many tangerines out there - almost everyone is breeding them, same as Albino's I guess, but tangerines are sold pound for pound higher then Albino's - I think it is equally as difficult if not harder to make a screaming tang albino as it is to make a screaming Super Hypo tang.

i think its because albinos are a simple recessive trait and can be reproduced much quicker in mass quntites, at least once a certain trait or quality or the gecko has reached a certain point... for instance... once ya get tang albinos you have achieved it and you know how to and can pump them out because you have established the gene pool......it may have taken a while to achieve this but now you can pump em out and all you can do with them is make them oranger.... tangerines are selectively bred... just because i breed thee females with a kick grass male, doesnt mean ima get squat, I SHOULD and they should look good but their is no garuntee's..... simple recession is a garuntee, selective breeding isnt....... .... you are more likely to get several special geckos out of a simple recessive trait.. and hope for one in the season "special meaning one that really is a screaming knockout.

i think another reason is most albinos you see are tremper they have bred and bred and bred... not too much more you can do with em... the normal ones for the most part people think are ugly and are only interested in the colorfull ones...tremper the marketing genius... cant do too much more with his strain of albinos and then comes the "giants" hmmmmmm whatever (thinking out loud) ....... but let me tell you when rainwater and bells achieve the point trempers have... the pricing cycle will start up all over again

also, go to a and m gecko their albinos arent cheap by any means.... those are high quality orange albinosand you pay for that quality and bloodlines

True super hypo tangs are not easy to come by at all and when they are around they are priced very high...... True tangs are all orange without any yellow...... I usually laugh when I see super hypo tangs for sale that are mostly, if not all, yellow...... I have seen and now own some spectacular true super hypo tang carrottails and they aint what you see on the classifide ads here....... They are ALL orange with over 60% orange on the tails...... They will make some pretty hot babies that will not go for less than 500 each...... Some will even go for as much as 1000 each..... The thing sort after most is the intense orange coloration that can only be line bred...... Albinos are a dime a dozen and are very easy to produce now..... But I am sure there will be some pretty neat albino geckos hitting the market in the near future...... Hey, Patternless albinos are still going for 250 each.....
