Anyway to mount a basking light on the top inside of a tank?

Tigergenesis Dec 23, 2003 07:44 PM

I'd prefer not to have to put a dome fixture with light on the outside of the tank if possible - just for looks. I'm wondering if there is anyway to mount/attach the light & fixture to the inside of an aquarium near the top? I plan to get a 75 gallon (48lx18wx21h) - assuming this is high enough to keep the light out of the Uro's reach?

Any ideas would be appreciated as I'm not very handy around the house and have no idea if this is even possible.

Thanks.

Depends on what kind of top you have on the tank. I have a plywood top on my cage. I bought two ceramic light sockets from Home depot, with two metal electrical boxes, and two extension cords. I attached the electrical boxes to the plywood, then wired the ceramic sockets to the boxes. Not hard, and it looks nicer than having the dome inside.

I forgot to mention I plan on using a screen top, but you're idea gives me something to think about. Do you have a pic you can post?
