WTF infection?

samster Dec 23, 2003 10:26 PM

Hello all. I have been a WTF owner for 6 years without ever having a problem. I recently adopted another WTF from a research laboratory (it was never used for anything), and when I got it, it had been in a 60 degree room, housed on paper towels, with only a water bowl. Before the room got cold, it was eating fine, and shed its skin and pooped fine. Then when it got cold it stopped eating. In that time, it developed a sore on its leg, probably from being chewed on by uneaten crickets (not sure though). Since I have had the little guy home and warm, in a better enclosure (not with my other frog), he has perked up a lot, been active, pooped, but has still not eaten. He has also developed some bumps on the hindleg with the injury. I am wondering if this is an infection that should or can be treated, and if anyone has any advice. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Thanks a lot.

Of course it can be treated. Ideally you would have applied triple antibiotic to the wound when you first found it. Most likely an infection has set in by now and may require injectable antibiotics, therefore it needs the attention of a vet. Keep us posted.

Thanks so much for the response. I put my frog Bendito into a "hospital" setup that I change out every day, and have now been applying neosporin to his sores for 3 days. I am happy to report that his sores are shrinking, and no more have appeared. He also ate and pooped again, woo hoo! I think he is going to recover. He really is a lucky little fellah!
