Female Jackson needs help

Piglet106 Jun 03, 2003 08:26 PM

Hi, I have posted on here a few times, but now I have a question about my female Jackson....I have had her about 1 year now, and lately we have noticed her having "color flashes", she has a red/maroon color on her neck, and she hasn't been eating but she has been drinking....is this a sign of her in "heat" and if so, do I need to get a male for her to mate? She will eat when we put food in her mouth, but she won't eat on her own? Any help would be greatly appreciated...all temps and husbandry is good, I have 3 other cham's, 4 Beardies, a savannah monitor, timor monitor and a ball python....

try offering a different type of bug. my jacksons really like pill bugs...they just dont stop eating them. see if those will stimulate her to eat.

are sure about the tempurature?..she my be too cold..or too hot.

reptiles dont really go into "heat"...they usually breed in the spring...the female sort off decides who she wants to mate with and when.

she doesn't need any special treatment like other female chameleon becuase jacksons have a live birthing process. most other chameleons lay eggs (jacksons eggs hatch inside them inside of being laid).

my guess is she is bord with her food....or when you put food in her mouth you put too much and she doesn't want to eat becuase she is stuffed...(I did that once...)

Thanks for the advice, I have tried switching up her food type, etc....Do you think that a male would help the situation? LLLRepitles has some males...do you know anything about them?

We rescued her from a pet store and nursed her back to health, and she was thriving there for a long time...any other suggestions, what should her temps be? I have read a few different numbers.....

the basking temp should be around 83 F and then have it be around 70 at the bottom of the cage. these chameleons can tolerate low temps at night but dont let it go below 50 F

males wont really change the way she acts but if you want to try to raise the babies then go ahead....the babies are very difficult to raise.

so i would stick to just her.
