constipation in corn snakes

mickmarkus Dec 24, 2003 09:12 AM

Hi all
Seasons greetings...
Quick question: i've been told in the past that corns don't easily constipate. I haven't seen poo in my enclosure for a couple of feeds. Should I go digging for it or start the water bath thing? Should I hold off on my next feed until i see stool?

Back when I used to have corns I like to let them out of their cages to roam around and get some exercise every now and then. They rarely passed up a chance to take a really big one when they were out of the cage. It works especially well if you put them down on something you don't want to get pooped on ie, bed, couch, living room carpet etc. Corns seem to like to save for someplace other than their cages if they can. Just let him roam around outside the cage under close supervision for a few minutes and he'll be cleared out in no time.

I wouldn't panic if he is looking good, eating and acting fine. Some things I think of if I think a snake should poop but hasn't....is, is it too dry/dehydrated, too hot, not warm enough not getting enough to eat. I wouldn't change feed schedule unless the animal is bloating or acting odd....or in shed.

Well, I covered my bathtub with newspaper and let him roam around for about 5 minutes and presto... out came the poop. Thanks for all the great advice. Happy holidays everyone! And Floyd (amel) thanks you too!
