Any info on small arboreal chams?

justin m Dec 24, 2003 11:03 AM

Hi, I usually build my own enclosures but yesterday at the pet store, I saw a pretty nice small enclosure for fairly cheap. It is 20'x18'x12' so I was wondering about a chameleon that would do good in that and that alone. Also, one that is fairly available on the market. Thank you

Sorry, I would not put any arboreal chams in that size cage. It won't be large enough to give them a temp or humidity gradient, won't hold much if any sturdy plants for climbing, and just not enough room to hunt or move around. Its a tiny space for almost any active hunting species IMO.

PS: It's cheap because it's too small for much of anything!

thanks, that's what i was thinking but they showed some chameleon that I have never seen before in the cage. it was one that had more of a flat tail with almost a dorsal fin and had one horn. Just didn't know if there was some arboreal pygmy cham that i haven't heard of. thanks

Justin,

when you mentioned the dims I assumed you were saying 20Lx18Hx12D. Was it 20 high? Also, if it was all screen a pygmy wouldn't do well. I have a 20hx18Lx12d that was Luna's first cage - in the warmer months it is her outdoor cage (for sunning and transport. I have used it for many different things (like rearing my Giant Silks in the summer). Right now it is inside Luna's big cage with plants on and in it!

btw, AdCam.com has pics with most of the profiles and maybe you can i.d. the cham you saw. But then again, we know that pet stores are notorious for improper housing

It was on the picture on the box, not actually on display. This pet store is actually one of the "good" ones. I will look on AdCham a while and see what I find out.
