colchicine or others: acf egg problem

ginevive Dec 24, 2003 03:51 PM

I have a bunch of newly hatched, developing acf tadpoles in a 10g tank. I have noticed small worms, mush thinner and smaller than the tads, on the glass. I think they're planarians; I have them in all my fish tanks also. Under normal circumstances, they are harmless, but I read that they can be harmful to fish eggs and fry.
Do you thnk they are a threat to my tads? I want to wipe the worms off the glass, but it's tough now, as the tadpoles are still stuck to the glass mainly, and only a few have reached the swimming stage.

I really do not have any experience with what you were describing. The only thing I can offer you is to get a camera with a macro function and try posting a picture on here and the health forum. You can also try making contacts with local universities, zoos and aquariums, to see if they can positively identify the invertebrate. I'm sure that most of those people will be busy, but chances are you'll get lucky and find someone who is nice enough to listen to you! Keep us updated on what this is.

I don't think the worms will be a problem. I cleaned out the tank very well, and managed to kill off the worms without getting any tads, using an algae scraper. The tadpoles are doing really good now. I have to clean out the tank using a turkey baster, however, to avoid sucking the tads through a siphon. it is tedious, but I am sure it will be worth it when I have a bunch of froglets!

If they are moving across the glass and not swimming in the water, they are indeed flatworms feeding on excess food in the tank. They will not harm your tadpoles.
