Question On My Red Tail....

OneTwoManyHerps Dec 24, 2003 03:51 PM

I purchased a female redtail from CrestedGecko.com at the NARBC show. I have bought almost all of my herps from him and have had an awsome experience with his animals.
Anyways I've been feeding her one fuzzy every sunday and she has gone to the bathroom atleas a week later with every feeding in her moist hide. For the past two feedings, one beeing today, she hasn't gone to the bathroom yet.
I noticed yesterday or the day befor that her eyes were glossy and that she was ready to shead and today her eyes are normal? No Shed Found. What could be causing this? Also she has been sitting in her hide box for the past three days coiled up and or resting her head on the hole cut in the box. What could cause this?

Sorry about the length and THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO POSTS

The first time my boa shed I was worried as well, because it took a lot longer than it did with either my corn or my kings. It all turned out O.K. - in fact, he's in shed right now. It usually takes a few weeks, during which time he mostly sits around and does nothing. He'll eat, although since he's not deficating at all I usually don't feed him until he sheds. The other side to it, though, is that once he does shed, he quickly follows it with the largest, nastiest, smelliest pile of boa crap you've ever seen. I mean just *foul*. But, he's all nice and bright with his new skin, and back to normal in both his intake and output of rodents.

The point of all of this is that I wouldn't worry - even after the eyes get milky and then return to normal, in some animals it takes a few weeks for them to shed and in the meantime they don't pass any feces at all. Once it does, though, have a shovel ready
