Hides that people use in Rack units (What would be recommended?)

ragnew Jun 03, 2003 09:06 PM

Just wondering what people out there are using as hides in their rack units? I've tried to find a bunch of 'em on the market, but the ones for sale always seem to take up way to much room... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

For babies in shoeboxes I use 6oz white deli cups turned upside down with an opening cut in it. For the adults I use the molded black plastic hides in the small size. Here's the link to an add here on ks to someone selling them.

Babies get a smushed (is that a word?) toilet paper tube to hide in. They like it when the top of the tube can touch their backs, that's why I smush it down a bit. Sometimes I'll even pinch one end down, if I think they need it (I use my reptile intuition for that one. LOL)

For humidity, I'll give them a light misting when the time is right . . .

For older juvi's to adults - they get a variety of household items - from little cream cheese containers with holes cut in the top for the larger juvis to Blue Bonnett margarine bowls for the adults. They all contain peat moss moistened a bit. . .

In my breeder colonies - I use a sterilyte shoe box with a square hole cut in the top. Climbing on top of it is good exercise.

I'm a cheap one also...papertowel tubes, I like them due to scalability.

im cheap as well,
i usw colored plastic dixie type cups (i use the cheap off brand though) cut in half as hides , for sub adults and juvies. i use 6-8 in green plant saucers with a hole cut in the top or side, for adults. for water dishes and food dishes i use either 4 inch green saucers (.36 cents) or clear 4 in. drain saucers (.14 cents). for humidity and nesting boixes i use gladware containers.
for babies i use small 4 oz cups cut in half and i cut these same small cups down for water and food. and all my leos are kept on paper towels.. viva (this is the only thing i buy the exact brand everything else is whats cheapest hehe,, oh wait and the gladware containers too)
