Where can this product be purchased, I'm from Quebec (Montreal) and hopefully Reno Depot, Rona or Canadian Tire would have this product. Anyone purchased any in my area?

Big Apple Herp is the cheapest around. I just got mine in the mail today.

As I'm building my own cage with wood as the main component, is the heat generated by either a heat pad or (preferably) Heat Tape too great, posing a fire hazard? I know people have used wood, but I don't know.. heat... wood... fire? Little help...
(by the by - thanks gmherp)
Remember Icarus, the wax holding your feathers only melted as you soared ever higher in the sky; it did not burn. Just as the trees outside do not burst into flames on a 100 degree day, so too will your wooden cage be safe from a temperature that high. If you still have doubts, you could convince yourself by putting your cage (even better, a piece of paper) in the oven and cranking up the heat to 200, even 300 degrees. A reptile subjected to such a temperature would be dead, but your piece of paper will not have ignited.
Of course we are NOT talking here about electrical safety, where product defects or faults in wiring or installation might produce extremely high temperatures. I’m going strictly by memory, but wasn’t Canada (British Columbia?) the first to ban the original flexwatt product because of fire concerns? Just thought I’d throw that in. Maybe someone else can speak to that issue.
Yours,
Daedalus
Interesting - it seems my concerns were pointless.
On a side note - "Icarus" happens to be my Collared Lizard who immediately adopted the habit of attacking his heat lamp, but only succeeded in smacking himself on the screen. Hence... Icarus.
I’d imagine any insurance salesperson (pre-policy) or adjuster (during claim) would laugh and walk away if they saw these homeowner-wired installations.

For what it is worth a very well known leopard gecko breeder and author once told me that the number of leopard geckos killed by flexwatt misuse and/or malfunctions was in the tens of thousands.
It's not clear how many were due to fires and how many were due to plastic fumes from melting plastic.
On the other hand, the number of leopard geckos raised successfully on flexwatt probably dwarfs the number killed.
Food for thought... I have no way to support or reject these numbers.
Sorry - another question...
What temperature does Flexwatt reach? Or... What temperature would it create in say - a 36 x 18 x 18 tank? Is it similar to a heat pad, only more reliable?
Sigh.. so many questions... My lizards will thank me in the end.
Temps for flexwatt reach 120 degrees.
Fire Hazard? Not if you use a dimmer control on some kind of thermostat control device like a Ranco.
Hope that helps!
