how much is too much?

how much would be too much to feed a ball (at once...not over a period of time)? like feeding it a rat thats half of the snakes body weight. i was feeding my ball a big meal today (deff. not half the snakes weight, haha) and started wondering what would happen if a snake ate that much? would it even try? so what do you think is too much?
