Discharge from pores?

jwainhause Dec 24, 2003 10:49 PM

It seems like an almost rubbery texture coming from my uros pores. Can anyone tell me what this is and if it is of concern?

If your uro has reached adulthood, that substance would be used to mark territory. It's perfectly normal.

It does look like that - three of them. He's a 4 month old Ornate. Isn't he too young for this?

You know, my baby ornate did the same thing at exactly the same age and I was concerned too. I e-mailed Lindsay Pike and he told me it's completely normal for ornate babies...it's called a "comb" and some ornates develop it and some don't...it can involve just the pre-anal pores (which is the case with my baby) or the femoral pores as well...Apparently it has nothing to do with sex; females can develop a comb as well...I will say that with my ornate the comb will wear down and practically disappear, then grow back...So sometimes he has quite a long set of "whistkers" and sometimes practically none...Hope this helps
