Hey, that's not how the book says to do it!

Hi. I have never bred corn snakes. (Other snakes, yes. However I have recently become infatuated with corns. I bought a few adults, and have enjoyed them immensly!) So, I figured I'd try my hand at breeding. I did my research, and read the books.
So, I put a pair of corns in the back room tonight, where the temp is at about 63 degrees. I stuck 'em both in the same tank while I finished preparing the 2nd one. This took me all of 4 or 5 minutes. I went to retrieve the male, and, well, golly. We had copulation taking place. Like, instantly!
Ummmm, well, that isn't how the book said it was s'posed to happen! They just blew the whole plan! What about brummation and all that? Hey!
So, what do I do now? Should I just leave 'em there? For how long? At what temp? Should I supply them with candy and roses? Or some cigarettes for when they are done? Should I let them read the book? Horny little things they are!
Am I doing it right? Or, better yet, are they? I am an excited grandparent to be! I love to have a healthy clutch of baby snakes! It just warms my little heart. I don't want to blow this, and cause any problems thru my ignorance!
Thanks in advance for any advice or reassurance!

Peace,
GratefulFred

just leave them alone for a few hours or you can watch and take pics LOL but they will copulate for a minute up to 30 mins(maybe more but i haven't heard of it). It is a little late in the year for breeding so it may not take. if the female is ovulating then i would keep them at normal temps and wait a few weeks to see if you get any eggs. to see if she is then you have to palpate her. it describes it in the Corn Snake Manual but all you have to do is get a piece if light cloth and let her crawl through your fingers while applying gentle pressure. if she is ovulating then it will feel like a strand of pearls is sliding across your fingers(only the last 1/2 to 1/3 of her body)if she is not ovulating i would go ahead with brumation and try again in the spring

Good Luck and i hope it takes! it sounds like you know your stuff and are doing everything right. Most problems occur during incubation so be prepared LOL

Breeding can happen at anytime the female is ready (does not mean ovulating). She probably didn't even see it comming (no joke meant). He probably surprised her. I would go ahead and cool him down and wait a couple of weeks to cool her to see if she starts to develope any eggs, but a doubt it.
