ETB juvies

coolhl7 Dec 25, 2003 10:14 AM

The caresheets from most breeders mention the need for temp gradient for newborn/juvie ETBs but when I see their facility photos almost all have them stored in small rubbermaid enclosures, many of which are dripping from high humidity (meaning probably no gradient). Obviously they seem to thrive in these small enclosures. My question is what temperature is best for newborn/juvies if you do keep them in small rubbermaids (eg 4.9 gal) and little (perhaps only 1-2 degree gradient) and no nighttime cycling? Thanks,

We have 20 neonate emeralds at present from 3 litters. 2 northerns and 18 basins. We keep them in "shoebox" containers. The room is kept at 80 F via artificial methods and the temp increases throughout the day via natural sun heat. There is no night time drop. They seem to be very comfortable with this arrangement. We also humidify the entire room in addition to water in the enclosures. Some folks will keep them in this size container for a year or more.

Thanks, are they started mostly on live or F/T?

They start out on live crawlers/hoppers. As soon as they have taken a few meals we start offering p/k and then on to f/t.
