should I be worried yet?

lele Dec 25, 2003 06:16 PM

Just wondering...I know Luna is receptive (albeit unrequited) but I am becoming concerned about her not eating and she does not seem to be drinking as much - even from her favorite little syringe.

I have withheld food and then try a variety of crix, superworm, mealworm, roach, fruit, veggies and she won't take a thing. She does look thinner (not much, but it's becoming noticeable). I hate the thought of force feeding b/c she is so sweet and mellow I dont want to piss her off.

As for water I am running her humidifier 3x/day for 30-60 minutes and I have hung shower curtain all around and close her in when it is on (if I am home).

So how long should I let her go w/o food before I really need to worry??? thanks

...her colors NEVER change. Is this b/c she is receptive?

I have a female veiled, Lola, who is 11 months old now. She went off food around month 8. I did the same as you - increased humidity, and changed the food offering to a variety of commercially available foods.

I found that during this time she would eat wild caught bugs - a couple katydid's and moths were favorites. Also she never refused flies. I'd suggest trying flies or other flying bugs if possible.

I noticed she was hiding in the back of her cage at this time. I added a pothos to hang from the top and in front of the cage.

Finally, I did adopt a male veiled, and introduced them. They appeared to mate, and ever since then her appetite has been ravenous. Not sure if these ideas will work for you -

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately we have about a foot of snow on the ground so there is not much to be had in the way of wild caught - LOL!

I am not going to breed her so that option is out, too.

As for flies - I ordered 2oz. of pupae before I went away mainly, for my anoles and geckos, and most had emerged in the mail! I am am TRYING to get this resolved with the retailer but with the holiday he has yet to reply. I offered Luna a few of the ones that I had alive and she readily shot at them but they are so tiny it will take quite a few for a meal!

Thanks for your tips,

lele
