Here's mine, it's 4.5 x 2 x 1.5 ft. I have 2 150W basking lights, and a 4' 7% UVB desert light.

Thanks for the pic. I'm trying to get an idea of how much ventilation I need to provide on my Uro's cage top while keeping heat in.

My room temp remains at 72 degrees year round. The cage will be against an outside wall. I'm concerned about being able to keep the temps up, so I was wondering if I could cut down on how much of the top is open so that less heat will escape.

However, I don't know how much (if any) of the top I can cover. I plan to provide a glass tank that is 48lx18wx21h. Rather than a top that is entirely made of screen mesh, my boyfriend has offered to build a wood top with a front opening hinged door for accessing the interior of the tank. He plans to cut an area for ventilation where he will put screen mesh and some other openings for lights. But we are unsure how big the screened ventilation area should be. We're thinking of an area about 24inx5in situated in the middle of the top. Is this not enough ventilation? I've seen so many set ups that seem to have even less, but just wanted to make sure I do it right.

Thanks!

I don't really know about the ventilation - I have a screen top on the entire 80 gallon tank. It's really a big pain in the patoot. If you can get a front door, I say go for it. It's better for the uros, too, since they think I'm a predator coming for them every time I need to fetch them out. Just give yourself enough of a lip at the bottom so your substrate doesn't come spilling out every time you go in.

If you're going for smaller ventilation area, you might think about two on the sides - for cross ventilation without letting most of your heat escape. I also have an air filter running in the room all the time to stir up the air since the door is closed all the time. A ceiling fan or table fan would work, too.

Sure, here ya go:
It's a 4x2x2 enclosure that's stacked on my Kingsnake cage that is of the same dimensions.

For light/heat i have Flexwatt heat tape as un undertank 24hrs a day supplemental heat source that covers 11" wide down the middle to about 2' long (half the cage). It's on a dimmer switch and just helps keep the hot side hot, and slightly warmer during the night time.He also has the other half of the cage if he chooses cooler temps day or night.
My main heat/UVB source is a Powersun 150w bulb.I also have supplemental lighting with an Iguana Light 5.0 UVB bulb that shines on the alternate log basking spot.

The powersun is about a foot off the rock hide/basking spot.Gives it a surface temp around 130-140 which is fine.he spends a fair amount of time basking there but also uses the whole cage.Gives a nice gradient and if he's too hot he moves off to the side of it a bit where it's still warm and still under the lamp but a bit cooler.
