I'm heading down to Puerto Vallarta for 10 days and need any info...............checklist, links, trip reports...etc on the area. I'll be exploring the states of Jalisco and Nayarit for the most part in habitats of thorn forest, tropical deciduous and pine oak.
Any info would be greatly appreciated as i'm heading off in three days. I think i have a handle on the rattlers and coral snakes, but nothing else.
thanks to anyone,
lucas f.

I think you'd do better posting this is the Field forum. At any rate, I've been down to coastal Nayarit - and went for a jeep drive then hike up dirt roads and into some jungle there away from any hotels. Saw lots of lizards (amieva type I think - not really educated on the lizards) and some iguanas. I know that Sinaloan/Nelson's milksnakes are there but are only seen usually during the rainy season. Your best bet - offer the locals some money for a live snake - you'll probably get some then. Of course, you'll soon find that the locals are not knowledgeable at all when it comes to snakes, but if you ask for "the serpente rojo" someone might know. I'd love to hear details when you get back.
