Won't Eat Pellets

mboden4 Dec 26, 2003 12:57 PM

my beardie is about 8 inches long and is one of the best purchases i've ever made. i believe he is around 5 months but i'm not sure and is a sandfire mix. i decided to stray him away from crickets and i went to a pet store and purchased these bearded dragon bites. they are supposed to be appetite stimulating and smell good. they come moist and they smell like citrus. however, my beardie won't eat them. i don't think he realizes that they are food. when i put them in his food dish he runs over and eats some lettuce and a few mealworms but doesn't even look at the pellets. any ideas for me would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Does he eat from your hand? if so try that way. There are lots of different kinds of prepared foods and some Beardies eat one kind or another some don't like any some have to aquire a tase for it. Patience is key. Try offering just pellets. try offering pellets on top of salad if they like salad. Try mixing pellets with live. try different things for a few days and offer less other food but don't starve them to force them to eat. Their taste does change as they age moving away from live and more to greens.
