Wait these under tank heaters that are able to be used in the cage are water proof right??
Do you guys think T-rex one or Four Paws one will make atleast 3 inches of sand 85-90 degrees?I also asked if it is water proof b/c I might be spraying water from time to time and the water might go down to the UTH. I need everything to work out fine so I can get a Desert Hairy scorpion. You guys seem to know more about the UTH so Im asking...If it gets to hot then my scorps gonna be cooked...

Thank You!!

Ummmm, If I remember right, you said you had a 20 gallon tank. The heater is called an Under Tank Heater. It goes under the tank and as such, should never be exposed to water in that locale. I was directed to the medium size model made by Hagen. Seems to be working and I too have a 20gal long.

what were you saying about a rubbermaid container? a uth has to go on the underside of the bottom of a glass cage.. it would just melt the plastic, i would assume.. they just look like squares of plastic with a zigzag of metal lines that conduct the heat and you stick it to the underside of your cage (on the outside, not in the cage). They sell them for various sizes of tanks and say right on them what they are sized for.. like my 10 gallon tank one is half the size of the bottom of my tank and it said it was for a 10 gallon right on the box
and no it wont be a fire hazard for paper towel substrate, because since the UTH is on the outside of the bottom of the cage it doesnt come in contact wiht the paper towel at all. I also have paper towel because i have a baby leo and he loves laying on the warm end, snoozing away hope i helped

Yeah I know its called a Under Tank Heater..... and the T-Rex ones can go inside the tank ok? I was just wondering if it was water prrof but it seems you guys have no clue.

If your asking if a UTH can withstand heating water safely, the answer is no. Do not use a UTH under any amount of water, as your glass is going to break. Thats the only harm i see actually, as I dont see how it would cause a fire hazard if its on the outside of the tank.

Still, dont use a UTH under any amount of water!

Good luck,
