I have a female belize slider which is going thru her first major shed but its been about 3 months. She provided with a 160 watt Mecury vapor buld make her basking spot 90-95 and she bask atleast a couple hours each day. I've taken several scute off which pretty much came off with the slightly touch. I don't take them off if there is resistance, some have air and water stuck under it. I don't want and shell infection to come about and just trying to find out why some turtles take long periods of time to shed scutes? I have caught wild turtles which I help shed and saw it was as many as 6 or more layers so it does happen in the wild too. but why is my question.
