Need some help with CRB.......

coralluskeeper Dec 26, 2003 04:31 PM

Well I have had this girl for about 2 years now and never had a problem, just the past 6 months she has come a really picky eater. And now she is not eating at all, her weight is staying up, about 2300 grams (shes 4 feet), how ever, I found a new problem foruming the other night... Around her head area her scales are getting very rough, and look nasty looking. I dont know what this could be, there is nothing in the cage for her to scrape it on, and the temps and humidty have been right. What worries me is the tail on my 3 foot ball python is doing the same thing, how ever he still has his die hard appitite and will eat f/t the day before he sheds (shedding now).
Any advice would be great! I will try to get some pictures of the area on the snake.
Thanks,
Philip

Philip,
. IMO 2300 grams is way too heavy for a 4 foot long CRB. My adult CRBs are real energy efficient. They maintain weight on much less food than any other snakes I have kept. They ate well while growing but since maturity have eaten sporadically except for the years the female laid babies and she ate heavily to regain weight after delivery. The rough scales are hard to guess about. Are you sure the snakes do not have any mites under the edges of the roughened scales? Post PICs?
Jeff
