Stripping in Coastals

Tormato Jun 03, 2003 10:31 PM

This winter, I want to breed my female Coastal. I've seen a couple of striped coastals out there before. In my pythons book, theres a picture of one saying "it is not known if it is genetic or not".
Everytime I see a striped coastal, it offers little genetic information. I know you wont know totally for sure, but how about you guys (darci)? Are you able to produce stripping? Or is it just a pre-birth incubator defect? It looks quite nice, and I particularly remember one being rather cheap. That makes me suspicious..

I have bred a pair of Striped Coastals the last three years and have prodiced 100% striped clutches each year. I know for a fact that my line is genetic.

Thanks,

Jason

He's probably cheap because he's aggressive! No harm in asking.

There are two 'types' of striped coastals that I've seen so far. There are those who have both dorsal and side striping. These are genetic, and are often refered to as Tiger carpets. The gentleman who posted before me can fill you in on the details of his if you want to go that route.

There are also individuals (like mine) who have just a single dorsal stripe. I'm not sure about the genetics and I have yet to breed my boy to find out. I'll be breeding him this next season. Single striped carpets tend to be cheaper than Tigers because they're more common. I saw a piture of a georgious adult male stripe coastal in the classifieds. If he's in good health and not too vile in temperment I think he'd be good for breeding.

I've never had this problem, but if your snakes are stripping, I suggest you take them on a day-time talk show and let them know its not acceptable until they are 18.
