how many silkworms?

trevoro Dec 26, 2003 07:15 PM

I just bought 100 silkworms and was wondering roughly how many to feed at once? Do you just use the same rule as with crickets?

My BD is 15 inches long and he just ate eight full grown worms. Does it sound low, high, average?

It's hard to say what "average" is with silkies... That sounds about right though. You don't have to use the size rule, they're very soft bodied --- just be reasonable, don't give a full grown ready-to-spin silkie to a small 6" guy or something. I have to moderate mine --- he'll eat them so fast he doesn't give himself time to swallow and he throws up. I found that if I moderate (Drop 2 in, wait a little bit, drop 2 more in) it's the best way.

I have to do the same thing since my little guy loves them so much. He'd stick 12 in his mouth at once if I let him. I just space them out and don't feed the next one until he has the other one all the way down.

About your original question: Mine quits as soon as he's full. He likes them so much that he snatches them out of my hand before they reach his food bowl and as soon as he's had enough he runs up on his basking spot and refuses any more.
