growing rates of frogs

rcs560 Dec 26, 2003 07:49 PM

Is it just me or does it seem like my frogs never grow. I haven't noticed a size difference since I got the guys over a year ago. Ones a froglet D. Auratus. The others are juvenile hawaiians.

are you positive that there has been no growth? What size were they when you acquired them? Size now? Also, keep in mind that it can sometimes be hard to notice growth when you are looking at them and feeding them everyday.

You should easily be able to see a size difference in your frogs after a year if you bought them as juveniles. Double check the temperature in the terrarium. Keeping dart frogs at too low of a temperature, like many other amphibians and reptiles, can stunt or slow down their growth. When the temperature is kept too low their metabolism will slow down and they won't consume enough food to grow to their adult size. If you purchased the frogs as sub-adults or adults then it might be difficult to see a change in size because they might have only grown a little bit or not at all. Good luck,
