MHD, small lump behind hind leg, and just above tail?

dextar Dec 26, 2003 08:25 PM

First and foremost, the information I have read on these forums is excellent, and between these forums and froggieB's webpage, I don't think anyone can really go wrong caring for an MHD.

Anyways, back to my question:

I am knew to this breed of reptile, I'm mainly used to smaller lizards/geckos like Leopard, Med., and some assorted Anoles. I believe what I have is a A.Capra MHD. Not exactly sure, perhaps I could post an image of him and you guys could diagnose exactly what kind of MHD he is?

My main concern though is a small lump above his tail, and just behind his hind leg. It is not discolored at all, or at least not yet(e.g it blends in with the rest of his tones). I am a worry wart so to speak, so the smallest things I will notice and will bother me, but I am not sure if this is necesarily vet worthy material as of yet. I am still a novice with these types of lizards, so please bare with me.
With the picture I provided I don't know if you'll be able to identify him, I'm going to try and get a better image.

a bump that was on one of the juveniles I bought, and another Drgon I saw in a petstore that died a short time later
NOW, I am not saying that the bump had anything to do with the death of either animal I saw with this kind of bump
But when I went to the Vet with my Juveniles, he said it looked like a type of Parasite tha lives just under the skin, and the dragons body encapsilates it, to protect itself, and can live like that for a good while
however, eventually the worm works out
keep a close eye on it, and if it chages DEFINATLY get it to a vet
if the animal is full grown what My vet was going to do was make a small slice in the bump, and clean out the inside with an antiseptic. Yes it would be painful for the animal, but it would be lethal to the Parasite
I do NOT recomend doing this yourself, but rather see what your vet says when s/he sees the animal (and of COURSE you willl report back to us what you find out)
Hope I was helpful, if not, just ignore me and my rambling
