Help sick gecko-kinda long

Gizmo my 9 year old male leopard is having quite a few problems. He was recently taken to the vet because he was bloated and seemed to be losing a little weight in his tail. He also seemed to be having a little trouble breathing. We took x-rays and there is no impaction or RI but there is fluid accumulating in his abdominal cavity. When the vet took the fluid out to analyse it there was a little blood in it. The vet is concerned that there may be a perforation somewhere and wants to do surgery, I am not a fan of this. Blood tests came back normal and all of the husbandry things are good. He is eating and pooping like always and but not quite as active as usual. He is on antibiotics because the tests suggested that there was an infection and now I think that because of all of the stress of all of this he is going to lose his tail because it is stiff and he is not moving it as much. I would appreciate if anyone could offer some advice, words of wisdom or any experience with anything similar.

I know several people who have had leos decline from "mystery" ailments and the problem was fatty liver damage, either from corn mold toxins in the crickets they were fed or previous starvation. Just a thought, if you are considering something as drastic as surgery, might be worth checking out?
