My super dwarf X Jampea retics at one year

sprovstgaard Dec 27, 2003 10:23 AM

I thought I'd post some data on my super dwarf X Jampea retics now that they have passed the one year mark (as of 12/23/03).
1.0 Length: Sorry folks this is an approximate as these snakes are very hard to get an accurate measurement on: 45 to 47 inches
Weight: 2 lbs 13 oz.

0.1: Length: Approx. 48 to 50 inches
Weight: 3 lbs 10 oz.

These little retics are fed every 3 to 7 days, depending on the size of the meal and have been fed a diet of f/t pinkie rabbits, large ret. breeder mice, small rats, and quail. They are given occasional (once or twice per month) supplements of vitamins and calcium on the rumps of the pinkie rabbits, and are always searching for food!
By way of comparison my 1.0 yellow head retic was 9 feet 1 inch and weighed 15 lbs at one year, and my 1.0 normal retic was 8 feet 3 inches and weighed 14 lbs 4 oz. at one year of age. Both were on the same feeding frequency as the super dwarf X Jampea's. So these snakes are much, much smaller than normal full sized retics at the same age. Plus, these snakes are so fun to work with. Talk about personality and intelligence (for a snake)! Mike Wilbanks, if your reading this, thanks for the great snakes. You breed some top notch animals!
Best Regards,
Shane

I've got one (male) who just turned one, likely a sibling. He's been fed every 7 days, either mice or small rats, thawed mostly, and he always loves constrict and to eat. He's now right around 42", about 3 and 1/2 feet.

He still comes up to the glass to greet me every day, and has never bitten or even hissed.

He's a wonderful snake indeed. I second the kudos to Mr. Wilbanks.

I had two of these snakes (one I just traded back to Mike Wilbanks two weeks ago) from the same clutch as yours Shane. Without power feeding these retics (same schedule as yours) they both reached 8 to 8.5 feet at one year. I totally can't understand how all these snakes that I hear about have only grown to 5' or less. I am sure they are receiving excellent care and feeding yet they are so much smaller than mine. Unless mine reach a ceiling pretty quickly, they will be over 10' at two years of age. They are already way bigger than the adult super dwarfs I have. They are wonderful snakes though and gorgeous. Kudos to Mike for creating such a beautiful "hybrid."

I have a female from this clutch and she is between 6 and 7 feet. Don't know a weight. I really noticed an increase in growth when I started her on large rats, about one per week.
They are wonderful retics.
