Please look on the Kingsnake classified ads for albino turtles. We are not allowed to talk about any animals we might have for sale in the pet forums.

Um,
I'm a little confused here, his post clearly states that he is looking for special requirements and asking if anyone has had any sucess breeding these. In my book those are both husbandry questions is that not what we are supposed to discuss here? Yes his post does state that he would like to get some, but he seems to me trying to get some husbandry info so he is prepared when he does get them. Seems a little ridiculous to me to spend 21 bucks to ask a question which might or might not get answered about husbandry.
just my .02.

Thanks,
Ian

exactly. thanks for understanding my questions...and actually reading the entire post.

there was some confusion in the other posts as to light sensitivity issues and such, and i was wondering if they where out and there...and how they are as far as reproduction is concerned.

oh and for the first reponder i have looked thru the classifieds, and theres non there. but thanks anyway for answereing somehitng i wasnt asking.

I have dealt quite extensively with amelanism (often called albinism) in reptiles - primarily snakes. I am currently working with Leopard Geckos, as well. I have noticed very few problems with amelanism. I can only recall one individual - an amelanistic California King, Lampropeltis getulus californiae, who seemed to miss his feed more often than not when fed live food. However he had a very aggressive feeding response, sort of eat now ask questions later.

My amel leopard geckos (I maintain and breed Tremper and Rainwater lines - I'm hoping for Bell line this year!) don't seem to blink alot when exposed to bright room lights and have no trouble feeding. They do spend a lot of time in their humid hide boxes but all my geckos tend to.

There is one caveat to this though - most of what I have bred in the past and currently have NOT required UVA and UVB or exposure to natural sunlight for proper vitamin production/absorbtion. You might want to post on the tortoise boards as there are currently several albino Spur Thighs (G. sulcatta) being bred with offspring for sale and there has recently cropped up an albino Cherry Foot. Another source might be the RES folks as there are quite a few albino Red Eared Sliders out there.

Just some thoughts,

Ian

thanks you very much for that response. ill do that. since there are other breeds of turtles, and tort. that are albino, and there more people working with them....it will be easier to gather info on them. thanks again. phil

I know the poster's message had two parts, therefore I did not pull it down, which I do with other blatant requests for animals to purchase or to sell. I left his message up hoping others with experience in keeping albino turtles might be able to help him. I hope people with expereince will help this indvidual with any husbandry information they might have.

I only wanted to mention in my first message that we cannot talk about animals we might have for sale. There is no malice in my post, just a reminder of the site's TOS.

I'm curious why his would get a comment and not the one a couple of messages lower looking for breeders of ornate or eastern boxes. The one from palex134 doesn't even ask about any husbandry info he clearly states that he is looking for breeders of Eastern and Ornate Box turtles. And he received answers without recieving any comments at all. Just tryin' to figure things out.

Thanks,
Ian

Tess,

I took (nor noticed) any malice in your original email, as I mentioned in my last post, I'm just trying to figure out why some posts get notes and some don't.

Thanks,
Ian
