blowing water out nostrils??

patoquack Jun 03, 2003 11:05 PM

I recently purchased a new boa. I have been keeping snakes for the past 6 months so I'm still a little new to some things..

This new boa was making a definite wheezing sound but mostly only after getting in the water bowl and being submerged. It also looked like it was in blue phase..

A few days later it shed and looked overall a lot better, but it is still making a slight wheezing sound after getting wet. I had a vet look it over and there didn't appear to be any obvious signs of respiratory problems but the noise is still bothering me. Is it ok that my boa is making this noise after being submerged in water. It appears to be blowing some water out it's nostrils. I never noticed any of my other boas doing this.

any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any cool drafts in her house? Try stopping the drafts and raise the temperature a bit. That should fix it. If it still persists, you may want to take the animal back to the vet for a recheck and possibly a course of antibiotics.

I would definately get this snake to the vet...what you're describing I've read a hundred times and sounds just like RI. I know I've also read upping the temps and upping the humidity also helps.

my ball python does it just for a few minutes after coming out of a bath. then hes fine. if your boa is continuously doing it for days without being submerged then youve deffinetly got a problem.
