Leopard gecko genetics...

beardielover13 Dec 27, 2003 02:43 PM

I posted this a while back, but now I can't find it. I was wondering if leopard geckos come in as many colors as bearded dragons. I currently have 1.1 dragons and I am possibly going to start messing with leopard gecko colors. If you have any info on how many phases they have, please tell me. Thanks.

Here is a page that helps explain what most of the recognized leo morphs are.
www.vmsherp.com
You’ll need to click the little picture of the leopard gecko at the top of the page.

There are plenty of other pages with similar info, try doing a google search.

Good luck!

They come in actually more colors. Bearded dragons, as far as I know, are all selectively bred traits...except the leucistic, if it actually exists. Leopard geckos have thus far, recessive, selectively bred and dominant traits going on. There is still a lot of development to go on in geckos...even though sadly, it seems the era of the leopard geckos is over.

Hi,

Leopard gecko colors...one of my favorite topics.

Common morphs as related to color:
normal
hi-yellow
tangerine
albino
patternless
blizzard

Variations of above morphs:
tangerine albino
patternless albino
blizzard
banana blizzard
blazing blizzard

Other morphs:
snow
pastel
hybino
red (striped)
yellow/lavendar
carrottail

As relates to pattern:
striped
reverse-striped
jungle
hypo
super hypo

Pattern and color combinations are common...
i.e. super hypo tangerine, super hypo tangerine carrottail, striped albino, red-striped albino etc

I may have forgotten one or two morphs...there are many colors out there and a lot of breeders working on developing and improving color in the leopard gecko.
