Pill Bug/Sow Bug/Armadillo Bug Care....?

Brock Jun 03, 2003 11:15 PM

I have tons of these around my yard, and I have seen that people feed them to their chameleons.

Are they completely safe to feed to chameleons, or any reptile for that matter (such as my leopard geckos) in high quantities? Could they be a possible staple diet, or more of a treat?

How would I go about breeding them? Does anyone know their specific care requirements: what they eat, humidity, heat, breeding info, etc?

What is their nutritional value? Are they more like silk worms and crickets or mealworms and waxworms?

Any additional info is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Brock

I wouldn't use them for a staple becuase they seem to be manly exoskeleton...but chameleons love them (mine do anyways)

use them as treats

First find a rotting log...one that the wood is easly broken by your fingers. the wood lice will eat this. you can break it in to really smll peices (i did) and put in a container. I put mine in a spare ten gallon but they can live in very small encolsures...like thos small critter keepers. any ways keep the rotting wood very moist but dont let water acumulate on the bottom of the cage. i put moss in the cage...spagum or whatever...im not sure if they eat it or just love to climb in it.

anyways i dont know the temps but humidity they breed when its very high. they seem to carry the eggs with them and some carry the babies with them.

I have only worked with the type that doesn't roll but im sure those have the same care
