Blood in her urates! Please Help!!!

abstractcypher Dec 27, 2003 08:35 PM

Well I took ajah to the vet today and I still have no answers. But the strangest thing happened while the vet was giving her a good look over. She musked him and there was blood in her urine. He took it in back to run some tests on it and sent me home with some Fortaz.
He's strongly recommending an endoscopy because all the tests that we've run have come back with nothing. And after this blood urates episode i'm beginning to reconsider it. At first I didn't want to, but I NEED to know if it's something treatable or if I have to euthanize so she doesn't suffer. Something is DEFINITELY wrong and nothing else is giving us anything to go on for a diagnosis.
What does it mean when there's blood in their urine? If I wasn't worried enough before...

Raymond

p.s now her occasional "hiss" sounding noises have turned into extremely loud, frequent hiss-like noises. (rest of her story is in the Retic forum, she's a Retic)

I have no claer idea of what it may be. And the fact that your vet is clueless to makes me concerned. Maybe you should consult another vet that may know more about reptiles. One that specializes in them. Call your local zoo and get a reptile specialist referral from them if possible.

Now I would NOT want to push you to make a bad choice but blood in urates might *not* be a concern. Its not normal but neither is a stressed snake. Consider that a breeding size female can emit blood from the cloaca during a breeding time and this is normal. Now dont THINK this means its ok but dont be surprised if this is normal. If no one finds any problems there just might not be a problem. Sometimes things happen biologically and there is no explanation of them. Make sure this is the case before denying treatment to the animal. I do echo Brian's thoughts that maybe you need to see a specific reptile vet schooled in their ailments. You do get what you pay for.
