i am looking to get some red-spotted newts. however i have not seen them anyware in recent years.
is there a reason for this? they used to be everywhere around here. even meijers carried them, a grocery store, and no not for food.

i live in dayton ohio, has ohio placed some sort of restirction on this newt? or have they simply lost popularity here.

others have said they still see them, but like i said i have not seen any for sale here in a few years.
if you live in ohio, or the southwestern region of ohio maybe you could tell me why this is. also if u live in this area tell me of any shops that may carry them. I live near 2 jack's and a petsmart.
1 jacks i know doesnt have them, havent checked the other. petsmart gets different thing off and on. also the reptile show in columbus doesnt ever seem to have any, or atleast when i go there

They are less often available than they used to be. But they are still sold in some places. In some states (VA, for example) it is now illegal to sell any species that occurs natively, so this may also be a law in Ohio, I don't know. RSN are a native species in Ohio.

You might be able to get them mail-order. I've seen them at Carolina Biological and Fish2u.com. You could also try posting a wanted ad at caudata.org/forum. You may also want to consider collecting your own from the wild - just be sure to check the laws and regulations of the state where you might want to collect them.
