Spilotes Pullatus Questions

Sasheena Jun 03, 2003 11:41 PM

Hey all, my hubby saw a picture of one of these snakes and so we might be getting one of them. We're not totally new to keeping snakes, as we have a sizeable collection of colubrids (cal kings, mountain kings, blotched kings, corns), but I was hoping that anyone familiar with this particular species could tell me all there is to know :D Thanks a bunch! (I did do a search, but hate the new search feature as it excludes all old forums, and doesn't specify a specific forum).

Anyway, any information would be grateful. Some of the questions we would be interested in would be:

How big do they get?
What sort of setup do they need?
humidity?
food needs?
special needs above the usual needs of a corn or a kingsnake?
Pros and Cons of keeping this kind of snake.

Thanks again, I appreciate the information.

I think Spilotes holds the record for the world's longest colubrid. I think I've heard a maximum of 13 feet. I also know they're rather arboreal. Most Spilotes keepers hang out in the Indigo forum.
As a side note, Chinese king ratsnakes (Elaphe carinata) have quite similar coloring but are shorter and so don't need such big caging.
