Breeding Question...

Robert Dec 28, 2003 09:48 AM

Hello all...I have a male pastel and multiple females...I have been rotating my pastel through 6 females since october...and since october i have only witnessed him with one female...but i witness him with that female everytime i place him with her...i know that the other females are females because they have produced for me before but this pastel is new...out of 6 females he only breeds one of them...have any of you guys ever had this happen to you?..or do i just have a monogomous (not sure if i spelled that right) pastel...

thanks alot,
robert remendowski

We have had some instances like that. This year for example, both our pastel male and spider male are only breeding half of the females that we have been rotating them through. Where as our other males are just "tearing" apart all of the girls we put them in with. They just don't seem to discriminate...lol. Not too sure why this is happening, but don't feel alone. Im sure this happens to alot of people. Good luck

We too are having that same situation this season. I am chalking it up to the females have under developed follicles for this season???? Of course I will try again later in the season for good measure.
Using a sonogram unit like the Sutherlands would most certainly eliminate this guessing game of which females are ready by identifying who has developed follicles! (of course not many people have the money for such a unit... but I am sure it is money well spent!)
Take comfort in knowing that many breeders experience this. Good luck with your breeding season!
